Love Can Be Real and Still Not Be Enough

Walking away does not require rewriting a relationship as meaningless. Sometimes the harder truth is that the love mattered and the ending still had to happen.

There is a version of heartbreak that would be easier if you could turn the other person into a villain and the whole relationship into a mistake. Then you could file it away under bad judgment and move on.

Real life is less cooperative.

I can love someone and still understand that love is not the only requirement for a life together. Compatibility matters. Consistency matters. Wanting the same future matters. Feeling chosen in the actual relationship, not just in its best memories, matters.

Choosing myself does not mean declaring that nothing before this counted. It means I am no longer willing to use the existence of love as proof that everything else should be negotiable.

Some relationships can be meaningful and still end. Some people can matter and still not be able to meet you where you are going.

I do not need to hate the past to stop living inside it.
