SOLO CHAPTERS · WORK & AMBITION
Why Do I Work So Much?
Sometimes ambition is ambition. Sometimes work is also the place you go when silence is louder than a calendar.
I have always been a worker. I like solving things, building things, fixing the mess no one else wants to touch and being the person who can figure it out. Work has given me independence, identity and a life I built with my own hands.
But there are seasons when being busy does something else too. It fills the quiet.
When the rest of life feels uncertain, work is beautifully literal. There is an email to answer. A meeting to run. A problem with an owner. A deadline. You can point to the thing you completed and say: there, that moved because I moved it.
That can be refuge. It can also become avoidance if I am not paying attention. I am learning to tell the difference without shaming myself for either one.
My ambition is not a flaw I need to soften so someone else can feel bigger. But I also do not want productivity to be the only place I know how to feel valuable.
So I am building other rooms in the house: books, travel, this site, dinner alone, ridiculous hobbies, family, friends, rest, dating when I actually want to date. Work can be a huge piece of who I am without being the last piece left.
