Daggermouth

10 stars · A dystopian romance that gave me politics, forced marriage, enemies-to-lovers tension and emotional damage.

Daggermouth was the kind of book that made me remember why dystopian romance can be so addictive. Shadera and Greyson have that delicious enemies-to-lovers tension where every interaction feels like a negotiation, a threat and maybe something else neither of them is ready to name. Add political intrigue, a forced marriage and a slow burn that actually earns the word slow, and I was gone.

Underneath the romance, I loved what the story had to say about survival — especially the ways women learn patience, resilience and rebellion inside systems designed to limit them. Shadera does not become interesting because a man notices her. She is already interesting, already surviving, already thinking several moves ahead.

The last ten percent caused the kind of emotional damage where you finish and stare at a wall for a while. Five stars are insufficient. In my completely unofficial AURA scale: ten.
